High Legh (5)8 - 1(1) Mobberley

Rodford 4                                 Szalwicki
Shields 3
Stokes

Mobberley arrived at the large Knutsford FC pitch with just 10 players and facing a well organised High Legh team. With a goal headed in by Shields on 15 minutes it looked like an easy day at the office for Legh but despite Stokes adding a 2nd for the home side a few minutes later, it was the 10 men of Mobberley who were creating chances. They duly replied with a good goal from their Polish International Szalwicki who they picked up on a Bosman in the summer apparently.

(Rumour has it that they are on the verge of signing Zbigniew “Zibi” Boniek and Grzegorz Lato, two world cup legends, before the deadline and in time for next weeks clash with Stretton.!)

This though, acted as a kick up the backsides to the home team who realised that with only 1 Mobberley forward to mark, there  was no need for a back 4 and the spare man pushed into the midfield.  High Legh began to use the full width of the pitch stringing the 10 visitors across it.

Further goals by Rodford and 2 more from Shields, to complete his hat-trick, saw the home side go in 5-1 at the interval.

Mobberley battled on gamely in the second half with Crompton and McGarvey showing some nice touches for the away side. The home side then pushed on in search of more goals and a fine performance in the second half by Rodford saw him add three more to his strike in the first half
giving High Legh a flattering 8-1 final scoreline.

The game was played  in a great spirit and both teams could have added to their tallys.

Men of the match were Dave McGarvey for Mobberley and Kev Shields for High Legh.
